Timing
Measured at every stage.
Every event is timestamped against a disciplined clock, and latency is measured continuously at each stage of the path. The behaviour of the system is known, repeatable and explainable.
Hardware
Specified and tuned for the task.
Critical paths run on hardware we specify and tune ourselves. Where software cannot meet a requirement, the logic is moved into hardware.
Monitoring
Independent of the trading path.
Monitoring, automated limits and kill switches run separately from the systems they supervise. Incidents are reviewed, and the findings are applied to the systems.
Research
One platform from research to production.
Researchers and engineers work on a shared platform, with the same data and tooling in research as in production. Work that succeeds in research is deployed without being rewritten.
